1 dead, 5 rescued when boat capsizes off LA County coast

A boat carrying six people, including a child, capsized in Redondo Beach on Sunday, killing one person on board, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The Redondo Beach Harbor Patrol received a distress call shortly after 1 a.m. reporting that a boat had capsized and people in the water were clinging to it.
Harbor Patrol deputies and lifeguards rushed to the boat and pulled five people, including one child and the boat’s captain, from the water, authorities said. All five were taken to hospital in stable condition.
But the sixth person, described only as an old man, was reported missing and was later found in the overturned vessel by a diver. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. No information on the identity of the victim was immediately available.
Authorities are investigating.
