Who nodded? Complete list of 2025 Oscars nominees | Arts and Culture News

The nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were delayed after dangerous wildfires broke out in the Los Angeles area.

The nominees for the 97th Academy Awards have finally been revealed, after being delayed twice due to wildfires ravaging southern California in the United States.

The wildfires are not over, as a new fire, the Hughes Fire, broke out north of Los Angeles this week.

But the nominations went ahead as planned on Thursday, with Emilia Perez playing a variety of music turning heads.

One of the 13 nominees made history: Karla Sofia Gascon was the first transgender woman to be honored in the best actress category.

In the film, he plays a former cartel boss who underwent secret gender-affirmation surgery and reinvented himself as a philanthropist in modern-day Mexico.

But her stage will be one of the hottest to watch, with stiff competition from Demi Moore of The Substance and Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres of historical drama I’m Still Here.

Earning another 10 Oscars was the Broadway blockbuster Wicked, reflecting a strong year for Hollywood musicals. The Brutalist, a period drama about a designer who survived the Holocaust and moved to the US, also had 10 nominations.

Other favorites from the Academy this year are the Vatican drama The Conclave and the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, both of which earned eight nods. Another six nominations go to the zany comedy Anora, about a stripper who marries the son of a Russian oligarch.

Some of the biggest stars entered the crowded best actress category, Angelina Jolie for Maria, Nicole Kidman for Babygirl and Emilia Perez for Selena Gomez were all left out in the cold.

But a surprise came in the form of the nomination of Romanian-American actor Sebastian Stan, who gained recognition for his portrayal of United States President Donald Trump in The Apprentice, a poignant portrayal of ambition and ego.
