Critics Slam Trump’s ‘Misguided Lies’ About What Happened to Children at School

Former President Donald Trump has once again falsely claimed that schools are secretly providing sex-affirming surgeries to children, prompting backlash from his rhetoric, scaremongering and nonsense.

The Republican nominee continued to try to “push transgender ideas on young children” during a rally in Reading, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday.

“Your child goes to school and takes your child. It was him and the wife came back. And they do this. And they do, and often without parental consent,” he said.

The absurd claim was slammed by his critics on social media, who called it “nasty,” “hateful” and “absolutely disgraceful lies.”

Trump has made versions of that claim many times.

“Can you imagine being a parent and your son comes out of the house and says, ‘Jimmy, I love you so much, go have a good day at school,’ and your son comes back with a brutal operation?” Can you even imagine this? What has gone wrong with our country?” Trump said at a rally in Wisconsin last month.

As a CNN fact-check showed in September, any medical care that legally confirms gender requires the consent of both parents or guardians of a person under the age of 18. There is no evidence that any schools in the US have performed sex-affirming surgeries on children without the parents’ knowledge. , and the Trump campaign was unable to substantiate the former president’s claim when contacted by CNN.

Trump’s recent use of the lie has drawn responses from prominent critics such as conservative attorney George Conway, MSNBC host Katie Phang and former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.).

Some parents who responded said they were more concerned about their children not returning to school at all because of Republican resistance to creating safer gun laws. Others pointed out that children need parental permission to receive health care from school staff.
