What is the one thing every teacher’s first week in summer programs? Sleep. And as much as we can find.
But what if we made time throughout the year to prioritize and delay our much-needed sleep? Enter the new trend: sleepovers, or sleepovers.
What is a dorm, and why do teachers need it?
The concept of a sleepover is simple. Instead of escaping the busy city and following a packed itinerary, guests check into a quiet hotel, set their phone to Do Not Disturb, and focus on one thing and one thing only: sleep.
Teachers are lumps. We organize the papers. We attend very important meetings that should be emails. Making ancient history fun and geometry more fun. Training teams. Running clubs. Keeping muscles and tying shoes. We keep the peace.
And we do all this with one eye closed (and a lot of coffee).

Aromatherapy
Light a lavender scented candle in your room. My favorite is the Threshold Calm candle from Target. It is a soothing medley of lavender and sage. Sandalwood or chamomile is also a pleasant scent associated with relaxation.
Read a story before going to bed
There is something meditative about reading before bed. Sometimes, the right book can put its reader to sleep very quickly. Take a warm bath
Light some candles, dim the lights, play some meditation music, and slip into a warm bubble bath. It is the perfect way to relax the senses into a calm state before sleep. I like to add Dr. Teal with melatonin in my tub. Soft bubbles envelop you in the sweetest scent of lavender and chamomile.
