Be it Walkman portables and classic Trinitron TVs or PlayStation consoles, Alpha cameras and amazing headphones for the twenty-first century, Sony has long been a staple at CES. But in the last few years at the world’s biggest trade show, Sony has chosen to focus on a different role: Automotive. The Afeela electric car dominated Sony’s 2023 and 2024 CES press conferences, and we know that trend will continue in 2025, with an appearance at Sony’s event (and subsequent press conference) already confirmed.
What to expect from Sony’s CES 2025 press conference
Afeela is the first product from Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture between the Japanese electronics and transportation giants. After a surprise reveal at CES 2023, Sony’s CES presser added more details on the EV’s LiDAR-heavy sensor array and AI-enhanced cabin tech (the latter comes with help from Microsoft) at CES 2024. waypoints – pre-order for 2025 before 2026 availability – they are still strong, I hope to hear what the Afeela concept car will be able to cut when it hits the roads of the real world.
Of course, it won’t be Afeala all the time in Vegas. Expect Sony to spend some time talking about its graphics, games or maybe even part of its movie studio. And with any luck, we will get more information about the company’s XR headset, which was shown at the 2024 show, but we will not see it again. CES 2025 could be the perfect place to show off a fleshed-out update of a potential competitor to the Apple Vision Pro.
