The search for missing siblings ends after a second body is found in the water

Authorities believe they have found the second body of two brothers who went missing during a duck hunting trip in Northern California last month.

Andruw Cornett, 19, and Wesley Cornett, 17, of Yuba County were last seen fishing in the Thermalito Afterbay downstream of Lake Oroville on Dec. 14, according to the County Sheriff’s Office.

Andrew Cornett’s body was found on December 31st.

Over the weekend, authorities told the Sacramento Bee that they believe the body of his brother Wesley was found in the water on Highway 162 by a passerby. They are awaiting genetic results to confirm his identity.

Authorities say the brothers are in trouble after entering the water three weeks ago.

Andrew Cornett called 911 at about 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 14 to report that his brother had rolled over in his car, sheriff’s officials said. The dispatcher advised him to stay out of the water and stay in his kayak, according to authorities.

But Andrew Cornett insisted on jumping into the water to save his younger brother, sheriff’s officials said. Both brothers ended up drowning and both were not wearing life jackets.

A Butte County sheriff’s deputy arrived at the scene about 15 minutes after the 911 call, according to sheriff’s officials, and the investigation is ongoing.

The boy’s mother called Andruw a hero for jumping into the water to try to save his little brother.

“This is a terrible accident that my family and I are trying to wrap our heads around and we have four girls at home that we still need to take care of,” April Clark wrote about her sons in a GoFundMe post.

Family and friends held a vigil Saturday night near where Wesley Cornett’s body was found.
