Personal Voice allows you to create a digital version of your voice by recording a series of sentences. Here’s how it works:

  • Personal voice integration: Record your voice using your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
  • Focus on privacy: Voices are encrypted and stored securely on your device.
  • Compatibility: Works on all Apple devices running iOS 17, iPadOS 17 or macOS Sonoma or later.

Sets a Personal Voice

Personal Voice lets you create a blended voice that sounds just like you. But first, make sure you have a compatible device running iOS 17, iPadOS 17 or macOS Sonoma or later. Choose a quiet room with little echo or background noise. You can pause and resume the recording session as needed. Now, here’s how to set it up:

On iPhone or iPad:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Go to Accessibility.
  • Click Personal Voice.
  • Tap “Create a Personal Voice.”
  • Confirm using Face ID, Touch ID or yours device passcode.

  • Click Go ahead.
  • Click on record button at the bottom of the screen.
  • follow the instructions on the screenwhich requires you to do so “Read the phrase” on the screen to record 150 randomly selected phrases.
  • It will tell you when you have finished recording. Then click Go ahead.

On Mac:

  • Click System Settings.
  • Then, choose Accessibility.
  • Click Personal Voice on the left side of the screen.
  • Then, click “Create a Personal Voice.”

  • Confirm using Touch ID, or yours device passcode.
  • Then tap go ahead, then Go ahead again.

  • Click Go ahead One more time.
  • Click on “Continue with the default names.”
  • Click on record button at the bottom of the screen to check the sound quality.
  • Then tap Done.

  • follow the instructions on the screenwhich requires you to do so “Read the phrase” on the screen to record 150 randomly selected phrases. In this example, you can say, “Can you speak Spanish?”
  • Make sure it is set to Continuous recording so you can go from reading one sentence to another without stopping.
  • It will tell you when you have finished recording. Then click Go ahead.

Note: The device will generate your personal voice after completing a 150-sentence recording process, which usually takes several hours to days to be fully processed. It will securely process your speech on your device at night while it’s charging and connected to Wi-Fi. You can create multiple voices per device, and voice production only happens when your device is locked and charged.

Using Live Speech

Live Speech allows you to type what you want to say and speak it out loud using your personal Voice or other system voices. Here’s how to set up and use Live Speech:

On iPhone/iPad:

  • Click Settings.
  • Tap Accessibility.
  • Click Live Talk.
  • Switch on Live Talk.

  • Tap Apple menu.

  • Go to Settings operating system.
  • Tap Accessibility.
  • Click Live Talk.
  • Switch on Live Talk.
  • Then scroll down again choose a word to use, including your personal created voice, if available.

How to use Live Speech

On iPhone/iPad:

  • Click three times side or top button.
  • Tap “Live Talk.”
  • Kind of your message.
  • Tap “Send” to speak aloud.

On Mac:

  • Click on Type in the text field to Speak in the Live Talk window.
  • Kind of your message.
  • Tap that play button to speak aloud.

On Apple Watch:

  • Triple click the Digital Crown.
  • Tap Live Talk
  • Tap where it says “Type to Speak.”
  • Type your own the message using the characters below.
  • Tap “Send” to speak out loud.
