Stefanik rips Democrats’ ‘scare tactics’ on abortion, defends Trump’s record on women

The Chairman of the House Republican Conference Rep. Elise Stefanik, RN.Y., criticized “scare tactics” by Democrats regarding former President Trump’s stance on women on abortion and access to IVF on Sunday.

In a recent campaign stop in Wisconsin, Vice President Harris said Trump would “ban abortion across the country,” “limit birth control, put IVF treatment at risk and force states to — get this — monitor women’s pregnancies.” Democrats ran ads across the country on this issue.

Trump has repeatedly said he will not sign a national ban on abortion, and Stefanik, in an appearance on Fox News Sunday, emphasized how Trump “believes this issue should be decided in the states” and supports three exceptions to abortion in cases of rape. , sleeping with relatives and saving my mother’s life.

“When it comes to IVF, that’s a lie,” Stefanik told “Fox News Sunday” host Shannon Bream. “President Trump wants to expand access to IVF, make birth control available, and the only reason Democrats are talking about this issue is these scare tactics because they’re losing on every other issue. Whether it’s the economy, the border, safety and security around the world, we’re going to run and win, and I think women when they look at the top issues, they look at how much better their lives were under President Trump versus the problems we’ve seen under Kamala Harris today.”

Stefanik also criticized Harris for failing to criticize Mark Cuban’s recent comments about female Trump supporters. Cuban faced criticism for suggesting on “The View” last Thursday that Trump doesn’t care to surround himself with “strong, intelligent women,” saying they intimidate and challenge him.

Stefanik pointed out that he, Gov. of Arkansas Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Republican National Committee chairwoman Lara Trump have been traveling the country as representatives of the Trump campaign. Stefanik also noted that under the Trump administration, the US had “the highest number of women in the workforce ever, the largest wage and salary increases for working women,” and “childcare was more accessible.”

Congress also highlighted how inflation has increased the cost of groceries, energy and utilities, which affects women, and women’s safety issues caused by the lack of border security.

“Kamala Harris did not criticize Mark Cuban’s outrageous comments that President Trump did not surround himself with strong and intelligent women,” Stefanik said. “Whether you compare it to the first lady, his daughter Ivanka Trump or the many high-profile women who are working to support his campaign.”

Asked if he would accept Cuban’s apology issued after the controversy, Stefanik responded by noting how Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, described Trump’s supporters as “sad” in 2016, “and called us Nazis, Mark Cuban said there are no strong or intelligent women around President Trump, and just yesterday you had Kathy Hochul labeling Republican voters as ‘anti-American.’

“President Trump is running to unify this country for the purposes of securing the border, strengthening the economy,” he said. “So Kamala Harris should be criticizing that, and they didn’t, the campaign failed to do that, and that upsets a lot of women across the country, not just elected women. Gold Star mothers, Gold Star wives, female veterans are proudly supporting President Trump.”

Stefanik later discussed Election Day predictions for Congress. He considered New York the “hotbed” of the House majority, as several first-term Republican incumbents face competitive challenges from Democrats in blue states.

“President Trump’s election is a huge advantage for every Republican candidate for the Senate and the House,” Stefanik said. “I’m from New York, obviously, New York is the center of the House Republican majority race, Republicans, when it comes to early voting, are up 50% compared to where we were in 2022, and that was the cycle where we just flipped those five House seats.”

“Kamala Harris is underperforming Joe Biden in every state in the state when you look at Joe Biden’s performance in 2020,” he said. “I think on a good night we could win up to 10 seats, Shannon, which would be a Republican majority. We’re not taking anything for granted, but the odds are on our side… On every top issue, Republicans President Trump is winning, and I think we could be in for some surprises on Election Day where House Republicans will make extreme predictions.”
