More often than not, star Wars it’s about redemption. Darth Vader saves Luke. Ben Solo helps Rey. The Mandalorian leaves his code for Grogu. Further down the list, characters that were once bad end up being good. Until now, for the latter star Wars show, Skeleton Crew, we have seen the opposite. Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law) has gone from a would-be villain to a serial villain and now, as we come to the end, we wonder, what will happen next?
Obviously, your guess is as good as ours here. We haven’t seen the final episode yet, and we won’t until everyone else does at 9 pm EST next Tuesday, January 14. So don’t worry about spoilers. We wonder if the show will keep the super expensive A-list star as a bad guy or maybe not.
To quickly return, the four children who make up the group meet Jod in prison where he uses the Force to help them escape. He then became their guide and leader as they tried to return to their home world of At-Attin. Jod, however, who is known by almost all the actors in the show as a different name, seemed to mark the most and not out of kindness. He wanted to see if the legends were true. If At-Attin really has great wealth in it.
So Jod took the staff across the galaxy, put together clues, and kindly avoided any obvious things about him. We know you are very sensitive. We think he was telling the truth about being lost and alone. He was definitely a pirate captain before making a few mistakes. But when it became clear that At-Attin had deposited some kind of treasure, a button went off. The antihero then turns into the selfish, evil villain we met in the first scene of the series. And, at the end of last episode seven, he had taken things even further, killing his first partner Brutus, decorating a lamp to scare children. again their parents, and finally finding At-Attin’s treasure.
In our minds, The Skeleton Crew took such care to show Jod to fully embrace his pirate side, it would almost be a betrayal for him to go back. At least in the middle this the season. Perhaps, at the end of this season, he escapes and in the next season of reflection, we see him learn the error of his ways. Anakin Skywalker, of course, is also very popular on the Actually Having Killed Some Kids–Jod’s side of the grand scheme of things. Sure, he removed the SM-33 head, but he didn’t step on the beautiful mouse that calls that head home! If that change happens now, this season, it would be a huge disappointment if he turns too quickly from the path he’s been on.
Jod’s arc has been one of the show’s best, establishing an emotional rivalry between him and the four kids he pretends to save. Let’s keep it that way. Make the star of your show a bad guy. We don’t care. We love it. If The Skeleton Crew hopes to go down as Disney +’s second best star Wars show so far, it should play that and keep him on that dark side for a while longer.
