Pelosi underwent hip surgery at a US military hospital in Germany after a fall

Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi underwent hip surgery on Saturday at a US military hospital in Germany after collapsing during an event in Luxembourg with other members of Congress.

Pelosi, 84, is “in good shape,” Ian Krager, a spokesman for the San Francisco Democrat, said in a statement.

Pelosi thanked the staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and the hospital in Luxembourg, where she was treated, for “their wonderful care and kindness.”

He was in Europe with a bipartisan congressional delegation to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.

Pelosi tripped and fell during the event and broke her hip, according to people familiar with her injury who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Among those who were on the trip was Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), who wrote on social media on Friday that he is “praying for a speedy recovery” for Pelosi. The two lawyers were caught holding hands in a group photo that day at the US Embassy in Luxembourg.

Pelosi was first elected in 1987. He served as speaker twice, stepping down from his leadership position two years ago but remaining in Congress and was re-elected to represent his San Francisco district in November.
