Ola denies differential pricing based on mobile app, tells CCPA

Ride-Haiding Ola Ola on Friday clarified that it follows “homogenous Pricing Straction” and does not differentiate prices based on the performance of users of similar ride-hailing apps.

In a statement, the spokesperson for OLA consumers said that the company has forwarded this to the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), which had issued a notice to the company.

“We have a fun pricing structure for all our customers and we don’t differentiate based on the user’s mobile app for the same ride,” said a spokesperson for the agency.

The company added that it will work with the CCPA to clear up any misunderstandings.

Union Labor Minister Pralhad Joshi had called such practices an “unbridled commercial practice” and a “flagrant disregard” for consumer rights. He directed the CCPA to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations.

Uber, which had also served notice, responded similarly on Thursday.

An Uber spokesperson said, “We don’t set prices based on a rider’s phone manufacturer. We look forward to working with the Central Counter Protector Authority to clear up any misunderstandings.” The CCPA had issued notices to Ola and Uber in connection with alleged variations based on mobile applications.
