Now Texas is suing TikTok over child safety, too

TikTok’s legal troubles in the United States continue.

Reuters reported that the state of Texas sued TikTok on Thursday. According to state attorney general Ken Paxton, TikTok is accused of violating Texas state law and endangering the safety of children with the popular video sharing app’s policies.

Paxton accused TikTok of not providing proper privacy settings for children’s accounts, as well as targeting advertising to children. He is seeking civil penalties of up to $10,000 for violations of the Texas Securing Children Online through Parental Empowerment Act.

It’s not the first time TikTok, which is owned by Chinese tech company ByteDance, has been sued over child safety in the US The federal government sued the company over similar allegations in August. In addition, the federal government wants to ban TikTok from the country due to security concerns for American users.
