Attorney Ritchie Torres, a New York Democrat, criticized the mayor of his hometown, Eric Adams, for fining but not firing an employee accused of vandalism caught on video.
“The City and the State should have a simple anti-Semitic message,” Torres said on Twitter Sunday night. “You’re fired.”
In a statement to Fox News Digital, the moderate Democrat doubled down.
“I would fire anyone who commits anti-Semitic acts like tearing down hostage posters,” Torres said. “I am asking the Mayor to do the same. The City and the State should not only preach but should not tolerate discrimination against people at all.”

The Bronx lawmaker, who has often criticized the left wing of his party for its soft-on-crime and anti-Israel policies, responded to a New York Post story earlier in the day that alleged a staffer in Adams’ office paid to promote “unity” and “bridge the cultural divide” was caught on camera tearing up placards depicting hostages. “If I was leading [New York state] or [New York City] government, antisemites must not work,” Torres wrote. “Tearing down posters of hostages is absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”

According to a page on the city’s website, which was only visible in archived form Monday morning, the Mayor’s Office of Special Projects and Community Events “plans, organizes, and executes public or private events and special projects that integrate and enjoy the extraordinary cultural richness and breadth of our City.” It counted less than ten workers, including the one allegedly in the video tearing down the posters.
Adams’ office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Hamas terrorists launched a sneak attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, killing more than 1,200 people, including 46 Americans, in what the State Department called “the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.” They also captured 254 people that day, some of whom were killed later.

Torres has been ripping New York’s Democratic leaders in recent days after floating the possibility of challenging Gov. Kathy Hochul.
On top of the antisemitism and constant anti-Israel protests in the city, he also blasted the failed criminal reforms he blamed for three murders.

The suspect in this case, Ramon Rivera, 51 years old, repeats 8 times his most recent arrest involved assaulting a police officer in the psychiatric ward of Bellevue Hospital.
“A bureaucrat in the DOC [Department of Correction] those who approved Ramon’s early release should be fired,” Torres wrote to Adams and Hochul last week. “Those who cannot be entrusted with public safety should no longer be employed by the people of New York.”

Adams also laid further blame for Hochul’s stabbing, calling on Albany to give city police more power ” put people in institutions” during a press conference last month.
