Melissa Rivers he thinks about what he lost in the Los Angeles fire – none of which was his late mother Joan Riversinheritance.
“The jokes and the big pieces that were stored, fortunately, for about two and a half months, three months ago were taken to the national comedy center,” said Melissa, 56, told. People in an interview published on Sunday, January 19.
Melissa noted that the filing cabinet contains more than 65,000 of Joan’s comics from the beginning of her career in 1950 until her death in 2014. (Joan died at the age of 81 after complications from an external throat operation.)
Melissa added that Joan’s “good things,” meaning her jewelry, were in a safety deposit box at the bank. Joan’s wardrobe has been auctioned off to raise funds.
Melissa, who was one of the tens of thousands of locals forced to evacuate Los Angeles due to the ongoing wildfires, said. CNN on January 8 that she held Joan’s Emmy with a picture of her father, Edgar Rosenbergbefore leaving his home.
“That was the end of everything that belonged to my family and your history,” Melissa told the news organization at the time. “I held my mother’s Emmy, my father’s picture and the drawing my mother had made of me and my son. … I’m going to look for a painting of him, rather than a picture. I know I can get pictures, but I can’t change the painting.”
Besides the things she took before leaving home, Melissa lost some memories of her parents.
“I had also put my father’s bathrobe on him,” he said People. “Everybody says, ‘What about her clothes?’ But it’s like I lost only three of their things that I kept in my house because they reminded me a lot.”

Melissa explained that she and her boyfriend, Steve Mitchelllost “everything,” adding, “If we say we’ve lost everything, you won’t get it until you see the video. Not just my life, but my son Cooper’s life. We were both just children, and everything is gone.”
Melissa, who welcomed her son Cooper, 24, with John Endicott in 2000, he said his life was inside three LL Bean boat totes. Melissa noted that she and her family are doing “as expected.”
“We’re all doing our best,” he said. “Cooper is made of the difficult thing that I am. And we all depend on each other and deal with it. “
Now, Melissa has found a temporary home and is embracing the humor she inherited while she and her family navigate what’s next. “It’s my greatest strength,” he says with a laugh at the worst moments, like Joan. “I am the daughter of my parents.”
