Jets’ Aaron Rodgers on why it’s ‘important’ for young QBs who aren’t ready to stay in the NFL

Aaron Rodgers knows a thing or two about quarterback play. He is a four-time NFL MVP and a Super Bowl champion.
The 40-year-old quarterback talked about the challenges young players face when transitioning from college football to the NFL during an appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show.”
“As far as the quarterback game, these guys are going to have to learn to call the cadence. They have to learn to play under center. Learning to play defense under center is different. You can’t just be in space. The shot all the time,” Rodgers said.

“There’s a transition, and that’s why I think it’s important that a lot of these guys stay if they’re not ready for the NFL yet. And I’ve said this before. The top picks that go to the top teams aren’t one single player,” Rogers added.
Rodgers spent the first three seasons of his career with the Green Bay Packers behind Brett Favre. The Packers followed the same formula with Jordan Love, keeping him for two seasons before becoming the starter.
The Jets quarterback praised Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders for their early season success.
“Kudos to (head coach) Dan Quinn and his staff. They obviously created something down there. They’re 2-1,” said Rodgers.

“They scored on a number of direct possessions. There were no penalties last night. They obviously saw that something was wrong offensively. Jayden (Daniels) looks comfortable, which is a credit to him and the coaching staff. The players around him give him the confidence he deserves.”
Rodgers also talked about his former division rival, the Chicago Bears, and Caleb Williams’ play so far this season.
“It’s tough. I think with Caleb (Williams) in Chicago, he’s as good as I’ve seen him come into the league. And I think he’ll be fine … because he’s very strong in the system. But it’s tough to play outside. Plan 10-15 times a game.” Rogers said.

The Bears are 1-2 and have lost their last two games after beating the Tennessee Titans in the opener. The offense has struggled to gain momentum at first.
Rodgers and the Jets will face rookie quarterback Bo Nix against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
