Edgar Wright’s Glen Powell-Starring Running Man Is Really Coming in 2025

When Edgar Wright Running Man Glen Powell (Twins) as its star earlier this year, it seemed almost too much to hope that the film will arrive in 2025: the same year Stephen King (writing under the name Richard Bachman) set his dystopian fiction. Although Wright’s involvement in this version was announced in 2021, when the busy Powell joined recently, it didn’t seem at all possible that the stars would align to make that perfect release date. But we learned today, it will happen.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures has been suspended Running Man‘s release date as November 21, 2025. The commercial also revealed that Katy O’Brien (Love bleeds, The Mandalorian) has joined the cast.
When Wright first approached the film, it was said that the project would be closer to King’s original story than the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starrer adaptation that hit the screens in 1987. In February 2021, Deadline reported “ Baby Driver writer-director [Wright] they will co-write the story with Michael Bacall, and will be very faithful to King’s best-selling novel. Bacall will write the script.”
In June of this year, not long after joining the cast, Powell elaborated on that. Speaking to USA Today, he explained that he has been a fan of Wright for a long time. “What was really amazing his take [King’s story]. It’s definitely not the original Schwarzenegger, it’s based more on Stephen King’s version. “
Despite hitting the bookshelves for the first time in 1982, Running Man you feel you are on time; is about a man who reluctantly signs on to a reality show run by the government and broadcast to eager viewers, hoping to earn enough money to get medicine for his sick daughter. Oh, and he can also be hacked by the assassins chasing him, much to the delight of all the fans watching. That’s right Squid game meets reality TV competitions—THR notes that O’Brien will star in the competition—mixed with fears about rising health care costs and callous politicians for good measure. And, it is worth mentioning another time, it takes place in 2025.
Some of Paramount’s release date updates today included Liam Neeson’s star The Naked Gun the remake, which will be released on August 1, 2025 (a shift of a few weeks from the original date of July 18, 2025); Chris Miller’s as-yet-untitled Smurfs musical with Rihanna will take over on July 18 instead. Also important for fans of the genre: It is brutalthe horror film starring Dakota Fanning, will now arrive on February 25, 2025, a few months ahead of its previously announced late summer arrival.
