Is St. Denis Medical’s Matt, Serena Are Fans’ Favorite New Sitcom Couple?

Every sitcom needs a fictional couple for fans to root for, of course St. Denis MedicalMatt and Serena our next Jim and Pam?

During a special interview with Us Weekly before St. Denis Medicalpremiere Tuesday, November 12, Mekki Leeper again Kahyun Kim (who play the role of Matt and Serena) wholeheartedly supported the idea.

“They sure are,” Kim, 35, said, before Lepper, 30, added, “Definitely in the sense that in the seasons — that we’re in right now — we wonder if they’re going to do it or not?”

Lepper encouraged viewers to look out for Matt and Serena as season 1 airs. “It’s on our minds every day,” he noted. “And there’s just no way to say it [yet] if they like it or not.”

Creator Eric Ledgin it won’t rule out the potential romance between Matt and Serena, he tells Us“There’s definitely a side-but-will-they-or-won’t-it. So I can tell you that it’s going to be a slow burn of what we’re going to follow over time.”

After working on shows like A supermarket – which featured fan-favorite fictional couples – Ledgin didn’t want to follow in the same footsteps as the characters St. Denis Medical.

“We have worked A supermarket and feeling like I’m a part of that narrative, for me it was about not wanting to do that with the central characters,” he admitted. “So it felt really good to have this kind of pie in the sky for someone to see if they can beat this person and that’s something we’re tracking over time. It’s fun to write but I also like that it’s not the main part of the show.”

St. Denis Medical follows overworked doctors and nurses trying their best to care for patients at a bankrupt hospital in Oregon. NBC’s new mockumentary stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, David Alan Grier, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Kaliko KauahiLeeper and Kim.

“Ave it’s fun to be in a mockumentary. I cherish the moments when I first look at the camera and have that relationship,” said Kim Us. “Especially for Serena, it’s very nice because she’s honest and you can see how she feels on her face. I like to have this connection with the audience that way. “

Leeper, on the other hand, called his time on the St. Denis Medical set “explosion,” adding, “I grew up wanting to be on a show like that.” The office or Parks and Recreation. “It took a split second to get used to it. Personally – for me – when I got used to it, I took any moment I could look at the camera. I love it,” said Kim Us. “I’m excited to explore that place that I’ve never been to because we’re used to hearing, ‘Don’t look at the camera.’ So it’s a pleasure for me.”

Leeper found that filming a mockumentary gives “an extra dimension” to the actors.

“You have all this untapped bonus space and you can put whatever you want in it. It’s different for everyone because Wendi looks at the camera differently than David,” he explained. “Ron and Serena, those are actors who are always tired of the person in front of them. Joyce tries to cover up to make the hospital look good. Matt is always caught doing something embarrassing. So having this as a tool is amazing. Doing comedy directly on camera is very fun and satisfying.”

St. Denis Medical airs on NBC Tuesdays at 8 pm ET. before broadcasting the next day on Peacock.
