Instagram’s grid update is switching to rectangles instead of squares
Your perfect grid on your Instagram profile may soon be gone – if it hasn’t already.
Instagram is making a big change this weekend: rectangles instead of squares. That means your carefully curated grid can become a mess as the size of the content changes on your profile.
“I know some of you really like your squares. And square photos are kind of Instagram’s legacy,” Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said in an Instagram story. “But right now, a lot of what’s uploaded, both pictures and videos, is straight to the point. And it’s too much to crop it. I know it’s a change. I know it hurts a little, but I think it’s a temporary pain.”

That change is clearly creating chaos in grids everywhere. What was once a perfect picture made up of squares is a jumbled mess. Many people have seen their favorite artists’ Insta pages now look weird, for example.

Instagram has been warning about this change for a long time. It started testing vertical grids in August and now it seems that the change is really coming for everyone.
