The Vancouver police response marked the 1 year anniversary of the Oct. 7 – BC
Dozens of Vancouver police officers were deployed across the city on Monday as the world marked one year since the October 7 attacks.
Sgt. Steve Addison with the Vancouver police said there are many planned and unplanned events that are expected to take place and police have stepped up vigilance to ensure everyone stays safe.
“We have to admit that there are many emotions in the community,” said Addison.
“There is great fear and anxiety today on the first anniversary of the Oct. 7 attack. We are here to provide a sense of calm, safety and reassurance to the community by providing visible policing not only here at the Jewish Community Center with our command center but elsewhere in the community.”
Addison said uniformed school liaison officers have also been deployed along with members of the emergency response team at high-profile locations throughout the city.
“Our aim is to maintain calm, peace and certainty in the community at a time when people are uncomfortable,” he added.
Addison said there were several events over the weekend, including thousands of people who gathered Saturday to march through the streets of Vancouver.

He said that there were no serious incidents, but he mentioned that there were incidents where the police had to intervene to prevent people from breaking the peace or ending violence.
Addison added that the presence of officers throughout the city on Monday is to maintain peace and provide safety and security.
The surprise attack killed more than 1,200 Israelis, making it the deadliest massacre in the country’s history.
Two hundred and fifty Israelites were captured and taken as hostages.
Vigils were held across Israel on Monday as thousands gathered at the site of the music festival where many were killed.
The attack by Hamas triggered the Israeli attack on Gaza that continues today.
According to the health ministry in Gaza, more than 41,000 people have died there.
