Streisand, 82, took to Instagram late Sunday, September 29, to mourn the country singer who died at her home the other day at the age of 88.
Sharing a screenshot of A Star Is Born the cover of the album, which was released in 1976 to coincide with the release of the film, and the latest photo of the couple singing together, Streisand revealed her first impression of Kristofferson.
“The first time I saw Kris perform at the Troubadour in LA I knew he was something special. Barefoot and strumming his guitar, he seemed like the right choice for the script I was developing, which it turned out to be. A Star is Born,” he captioned the post. “In the movie, Kris and I sang a song I wrote for the movie’s main love theme, “Evergreen.”

He continued, “For my recent concert in 2019 at Hyde Park in London, I asked Kris to join me on stage to sing our song. A Star is Born The duet, “Lost Inside You.” He was as good as ever, and the audience gave him a standing ovation. It was a joy to see him get the recognition and love he so richly deserved.”
Streisand holds the position out of respect for Kristofferson’s family.
“My thoughts go out to Kris’ wife, Lisa, who I know was very supportive,” Streisand wrote.
Kristofferson’s family shared the sad news of his death in a statement posted on Instagram on Saturday, September 28. “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September. 28 at home,” said his family. “We were all blessed with the time we had him. Thank you for loving him all these years, and when you see a rainbow, know that you are all smiling.”
The post, which featured a black-and-white photo of Kristofferson, concluded, “The family requests privacy at this time.”

In 1976 A Star Is Bornhas been remade four times including the 2018 version starring the star Lady Gaga again Bradley Cooperhad a song No. 1, “Love Theme From A Star is Born,” written by Streisand. The song was a huge hit, winning Streisand a Grammy Award in 1978 and an Oscar for Best Original Song at the 1977 Academy Awards.
The film itself was also critically acclaimed, winning four Golden Globe Awards in 1977. The film’s plot follows an alcoholic singer, played by Kristofferson in the 1976 version, who falls in love with an up-and-coming young singer, played by Streisand.
