Vice President Kamala Harris upset and outed former President Donald Trump in August, ending the month with more money to fund her last run in the November election, according to new documents from the Federal Election Commission.
Harris’ campaign raised more than $189 million in August, more than four times the $44 million Trump campaign brought in.
Those figures reflect fundraising exclusively for the candidate’s main campaign accounts and do not include contributions to other branches of their political activity.
The Harris campaign announced earlier this month that it raised $361 million in August from campaign contributions from the Democratic National Committee and fundraising committees. That dwarfed the $130 million raised between the Trump campaign and joint fundraising committees.
These figures do not include contributions from September, including a $47 million outflow to Harris’ campaign from nearly 600,000 donors in the 24 hours following the first and likely only Harris-Trump debate.
Harris’ campaign on Saturday accepted an invitation from CNN to hold a second debate on October 23, but Trump has been adamant that there will be no repeat.
The FEC’s new filing reflects the continued growth of donor enthusiasm for Harris, even as the initial buzz about the Democratic candidate’s exchange in July intensified. Harris’ entire political career raised $310 million in July after President Joe Biden ended his candidacy and endorsed him on the Democratic ticket.
Harris also closed the donation gap in favor of Democrats, erasing Trump’s funding lead with Republicans before Biden stepped down.
Since then, the Harris campaign has been outpacing Trump with an advertising blitz across all television and digital platforms, as well as other campaign expenditures.
Harris and the DNC collectively spent $258 million in August, more than the $121 million Trump and the RNC spent, according to the FEC.
“As we enter the final stages of this election, we are making sure that every dollar he has worked hard for wins over the voters who will decide this election,” Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a press release earlier this month.
Heading into the final race of the presidential race, the Harris team ended August with $404 million in cash on hand, surpassing the $295 million war chest reported by Trump’s campaign.
The Trump campaign has confirmed that its donations will run the entire race.
“The Trump-Vance campaign has momentum for the final moments of the race,” senior Trump campaign adviser Brian Hughes said in a statement. “These fundraising numbers since August are indicative of that movement.”
