Fox News Channel dominates cable news as CNN, MSNBC fall into weekly disgrace

Fox News Channel averaged 1.4 million and 2 million daily viewers during cable news dominance last week, while MSNBC and CNN executives didn’t have much to be thankful for as both networks shrugged off huge historic viewership declines.
CNN had its lowest week in total viewers since June 2001 during the week of November 25, averaging just 268,000 compared to Fox News’ 1.4 million.
MSNBC managed 346,000 average viewers, beating CNN in the category despite difficulty viewing other ratings. It was largely the same in the primetime, as MSNBC averaged 465,000 viewers while CNN drew just 297,000 as both networks finished with less than half the audience of Fox News. combined.

Despite the busy news cycle, CNN had a smaller average audience from 8-11 pm than 29 other cable networks, including Bravo, TV Land, Freeform Investigation Discovery, FX, Food Network and and history.
Since President Donald Trump’s Election Day victory, Fox News has captured 73% of the primetime news audience as MSNBC and CNN’s audiences see viewers tune in for news.
CNN had its lowest-rated week among adults 25-54 in nearly 30 years, averaging 41,000 viewers in the target group for advertisers. But MSNBC was even worse in the critical segment, reaching only 29,000 daily viewers in the middle of the demo.
MSNBC had a smaller audience in the demo than 36 other cable options, including Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, E!, The Cartoon Network, Oxygen, MTV, Hallmark Mystery and two Lifetime networks. It was MSNBC’s worst week in the demo since November 1997.

Fox News thrived as CNN and MSNBC struggled, resulting in FNC’s highest share of the cable news audience among the key demo in the network’s history with 163,000 average viewers ages 25-54 for an impressive 70% share.
In the primetime, Fox News averaged 237,000 viewers in the demo compared to just 51,000 for CNN, which finished behind 33 different cable options.
MSNBC only managed 37,000 average viewers in the demo to finish No. 43 among cable outlets. It was the lowest-rated week for MSNBC in the segment since December 1997.

For the week, Fox News beat CNN by 407% in total day viewers and 577% in prime time viewers and crushed MSNBC by 293% in total day viewers and 334% in prime time viewers.
