Martha Stewart’s ex-husband, wife says her marriage to lifestyle mogul was ‘painful and abusive’

Martha Stewart’s ex-husband Andrew “Andy” Stewart and his wife Shyla Nelson Stewart have broken their silence about the claims made by the lifestyle mogul in the new documentary “Martha.”

In the Netflix film, Martha, 83, accused Andrew of having multiple affairs during their 29-year marriage and revealed that he had been unfaithful to her.

“Girls, listen to my advice, if you’re married and your husband starts cheating on you, you’re a piece of s—,” Martha, who was married to Andrew from 1961 to 1990, said in the trailer for the film. . “Get out of that marriage.”

Andrew and Shyla shared their response in a statement they both signed and posted on Facebook before the document was released on October 30.

“Hello FB family – this is my first and only public comment on this matter. Since I am not on any other social media site, this is the only place I am sharing this,” Shyla wrote in the post she uploaded. on his page.

She continued, “As some of you know, my husband is Andrew Stewart – a brilliant publisher, naturalist and nature photographer, and one of the gentlest, soft-spoken, kindest men I’ve ever known.”

“No one was more surprised than us when, after being introduced as partners almost 12 years ago, our connection blossomed into a deep and lasting love,” added Shyla.

“Through our shared dedication to the world and our intergenerational families, Andy and I have created a life of beauty, meaning, productivity, and purpose, infused with true love, shared as fully as possible with our beautiful combination. a family of 5 wonderful grown children, our 3 beautiful grandchildren, our extended family and many dear friends.”

She went on to talk about Andrew’s passing, writing that her husband went through some tough times before they fell in love.

“Before this happy chapter in his life, Andy had a dark one, including a painful and abusive marriage to Martha (as in Martha Stewart), which ended almost 40 years ago,” said Shyla.

He continued, “While Andy quietly moves on with his life, it seems that Martha continues to put the marriage on hold publicly, including comments in the sensational trailer for the upcoming Netflix documentary.

In the post, Martha recalled that she and Andrew, who share a daughter with Alexis, both had affairs while they were married.

Martha said that Andrew had “many different girlfriends” and was “unsatisfied at home.” He also accused her of cheating on him with her former assistant, Robyn Fairclough.

Three years after his divorce from Martha, Andrew married Fairclough, who was 21 years his junior, in May 1993, but they later divorced.

In the film, Martha also revealed that she kissed a stranger in a church in Florence, Italy, while she and Andrew were on their honeymoon.

In addition, Martha admitted that she had “a very brief relationship with an attractive Irishman,” but told the film’s director, RJ Cutler, that she believed Andrew did not know about it.
