Former Biden staffer asks Democrats to take a hard look at ‘catastrophic’ mistakes in 2024 campaign

Former Democrat Jamie Metzl has joined the crowd of Democrats asking the party to take a hard look in the mirror to understand where they have lost working Americans after their stunning defeat in the 2024 election.

“When we saw Joe Biden in the interview on June 27, it should have been clear to everyone that this was not the person who could be the President of the United States for another four years, and people on the inside saw his decline. We should have a competitive primary, and if we had a competitive primary, there would be a candidate who would say, ‘Hey, I don’t fully agree with this past administration.’ That was number one,” he told Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade Monday on “Fox & Friends.”

He continued, “Number two the Democrats didn’t separate themselves from these crazy leftists. The American people are really reasonable, people in the middle. Nobody wants to take money out of the police. Nobody is involved in making an intifada. Nobody sees people on campuses. And Hamas headbands are burning American flags and he said, ‘Hey, it’s us’… trying to bring everyone into this same tent, I think we have skunks in the tent, and I think the Democrats really need to look at themselves.”

Metzl served as Deputy Staff Director of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during his tenure as Sen. Biden chaired and served on the National Security Council during the Clinton administration.

Metzl complained that voters did not know what the Democratic Party stood for after giving Vice President Kamala Harris, who appears to be a progressive turned centrist, and Gov. Tim Walz, a striker who is one of the leaders who turned to the front.

He pointed out that Democrats need to be “more clear” in their messaging in order to gain the trust of the American people.

The key to making it happen? Party officials such as Gov. Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro or Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, suggested, pointing to their perceived ability to bring people together in these different ages as well as in regions with no clear political order.

“When I listened to President Trump on Joe Rogan, I didn’t agree with a lot of what President Trump was saying. But I think people listened and said, ‘Hey, this guy’s honest.’ When we heard interviews with Kamala Harris, we don’t know if she said the things she said,” he added.

Metzl also appeared on “The Brian Kilmeade Show,” where he touched on Biden’s delayed decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, and what that decision meant for his party.

“I appreciate the many things he did as president, but he made a big mistake last year by not just saying, ‘I’ve played my part. It’s time to step down. I’m not going to seek re-election. Let’s have an open primary school, and let someone else come up.’ And we all saw on June 27, in the interview, that he wasn’t in a position to work for another four years, and I think that really bothered us,” he said.

“Everybody saw that this was going to be a swing election, and we had a former president and a current vice president, and that’s a tough way to pick a swing. The Democrats had a chance to have a swing. If we had some kind of open base, even after the debate, in the short version, we could have a contest. of ideas, which is what democracy is all about….”

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders grabbed headlines and angered party members with an X post last week, asking Democrats to think about why the working class has abandoned them.

He suggested that the mistake was caused by the fact that the Democrats first abandoned the working class of Whites, Blacks and Hispanics, and then responded accordingly.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., among others, took the comments seriously, shooting back that she “disrespects” the claim.
