Fetterman meets with Trump nominees, promises ‘open mind and informed opinion’ for confirmation votes

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., has suggested that it is his duty to meet with President-elect Donald Trump’s nominees, noting that his decision on whether to vote to confirm candidates will come from an open mind and informed opinion.

“I believe it is appropriate and responsible for a US Senator to have a conversation with President-elect Trump. That’s why I met with Elise Stefanik and Pete Hegseth, I recently met with Tulsi Gabbard, and I look forward to my meetings with others in the near future,” Fetterman said in the X post. .

“My votes will come from an open mind and an informed opinion after talking to them. That’s not contradictory, it’s my job,” he continued.

Trump tapped Rep. Elise Stefanik, RN.Y., to serve as US Ambassador to the United Nations, Hegseth to serve as secretary of defense, and former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence.

Although Fetterman has previously indicated that he plans to support Stefanik, it is unclear whether he will end up supporting Hegseth and Gabbard for confirmation.

Fox News Digital reached out to the senator for comment, but a spokesperson did not provide further details on Fetterman’s voting plans regarding Hegseth and Gabbard.

Fetterman has remained steadfast in his staunch support for Israel since the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas against the US coalition.

“It was always a hard YES to @EliseStefanik but it was a pleasure to have the conversation. I support UNRWA’s defunding of its documented entry into Hamas and I look forward to holding the @UN to account for its incessant contradictions and blatant anti-Israel views,” Fetterman announced in a post earlier this month.

He also pledged to support the confirmation of Sen. Marco Rubio to serve as secretary of state.

“Not surprisingly, the other party’s choice will be more politically divisive than mine,” Fetterman noted in a post on X last month. “That said, my colleague @SenMarcoRubio is a solid choice and I look forward to voting for his confirmation.”
