Watch Jordan Peele Discover His Favorite Horror Movie

If there’s one thing people on the internet love to do, it’s competitions and trying to decide who is “the best” at something. And since we’re heading into October, that means it’s time to extend that to horror movies. But instead of holding a poll or writing for people to argue about it in the comments, Jordan Peele is taking a slightly different approach to things…after all, people can argue about it in writing.
On Friday, Peele released a video in which he broke down his favorite horror movie. The twist? It’s done in a tournament bracket like in sports, with 16 movies going head-to-head before the top two square off in the end. Those movies include a variety of 80s and 90s classics (such as Friday the 13th again Shout out), recent fare from the 2000s to about now (The Babadook again It follows), while the oldest in this group is Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 film Birds. Naturally, some of the match-ups get silly— It follows squaring off against Jaws it’s funny to think about it in a formal way–but in the end, the winner…

A Nightmare on Elm Street, what Peele says is the greatest villain ever in Robert Englund’s Freddy Krueger. Too bad the video is only a minute long, because longer would have allowed him to break down why he chose the films he made and what he liked about them. Actors interviewed by Letterboxd get a chance to do just that with their Favorite Four, and it can lead to some interesting insights, even about movies people don’t know like the back of their hand.
Do you agree with Jordan Peele’s choice, or do you disagree? Think this tells us something about his previous movies or his the next one in 2026? Let us know in the comments.
