Mozambique’s supreme court upholds ruling party’s victory in disputed election | News

The Supreme Court of Mozambique has confirmed the victory of the ruling Frelimo party in the October elections which sparked massive protests by opposition parties who claimed the votes were rigged.
The Constitutional Council has the final say on the electoral process and its decision is likely to spark further protests in Mozambique, a southern African country of nearly 35 million people that has been ruled by Frelimo since Portugal’s independence in 1975.
The leader of the opposition Venancio Mondlane says that the vote on October 9 was rejected in favor of Frelimo and that the side count indicates that he got enough votes to take office.
