Search for missing Oregon hiker and his dogs suspended due to ‘weather, chances of survival’

Authorities have halted a search in Oregon for a missing 61-year-old hiker and his two dogs, citing “weather and the chances of survival.”

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office says a “missing person investigation” is ongoing for Susan Lane-Fournier, who disappeared last week while walking her two large Malinois-mix dogs on the Green Canyon Way Trail near Welches, an outdoor resort town. Mt. Hood.

“Based on the weather and the chances of survival, the decision was made to suspend operations after all four search teams returned to the field,” the sheriff’s office said Tuesday night.

“From Saturday through Tuesday, dozens of search volunteers, a drone team, and K9s sniffing and tracking spent more than 800 hours searching for Ms. Lane-Fournier. Although search and rescue operations have ended, the case remains open,” they said. added.

A search of more than 100 miles of trails in the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness — which involved 37 searchers, two drone teams and two US Forest Service snowmobiles — found no sign of Lane-Fournier.

Investigators are now working to determine the timeline leading up to the disappearance of this Brightwood resident.

Lane-Fournier is about 5 feet, 2 inches, weighs 150 pounds and has auburn hair.

“Deputies were unable to locate Ms. Lane-Fournier at her residence on November 22 after her employer reported that she had missed work. The next day, a member of the public reported seeing Susan’s white 1992 Ford F-250 parked along E. Salmon River Road near Green Canyon. Way Trail south of Welches,” according to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
