Vice President Kamala Harris will release a statement detailing her medical history and health information on Saturday in an attempt to do the same for former President Donald Trump.

The detailed report will conclude, “He has the physical and mental fitness necessary to effectively perform the duties of the President, including those of Chief Executive Officer, Head of State and Commander in Chief,” according to a senior campaign aide.

Harris advisers insist the report is an opportunity to highlight Trump’s health and mind, as the 78-year-old Republican nominee will become the oldest president at the end of his second term, the aide said.

President Biden, 81, withdrew from the 2024 presidential election in July amid pressure from the Democratic Party given concerns about his aging and visible fatigue. Since then, the Democrats have sought to continue to anger Trump for what was once an election threat.

The decision to release Harris’ medical information comes after a New York Times report asserted that Trump had not been successful in his own life, even after a would-be assassin’s bullet grazed his head at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania last July.

Trump did not release his medical records during his first White House campaign in 2016, the report said. And the Trump White House has not released accurate updates on his condition after the 2020 COVID diagnosis, with reports suggesting the president was much sicker than his doctors were publicly saying, according to the report.

“In 2024, days before he was officially nominated as the Republican president for the third time, he was shot by his would-be assassin, yet his campaign did not hold a briefing on his condition, release hospital records or make emergency doctors available for interviews,” the report said. It goes on to quote several medical experts. who raised concerns that Trump could enter the Oval Office for a second term with “potentially difficult problems.”

Trump’s last health update came in November 2023, when his doctor, Bruce Aronwald, said in Trump’s letter that his “general health is excellent.”

“His physical tests were normal and his mental tests were abnormal,” Aronwald wrote.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In an August interview with CBS News, Trump insisted that he would “gladly release” his medical records, noting at the time that he had “scored perfectly” in recent medical exams.
