Biden boss opposes UN Security Council resolution against Israel ‘will strengthen Hamas’

After growing calls from members of Congress and pro-Israel voices, the Biden administration voted for a draft resolution against the Jewish state at the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday.

The UN Security Council voted 14-1 in favor of the resolution sponsored by 10 non-permanent members of the 15-member council, but it was not adopted due to the US veto.

The US ambassador, Robert A. Wood, has issued a scathing accusation about the draft decision in favor of the US-designated terrorist organization, Hamas, for the release of more than 100 hostages, including seven Americans held by the Jihadi group in Gaza. Wood also took many council members to task for seeking an “absurd” outcome and a “disagreeable approach.”

Wood said that some members of the council want the US to block the decision, which means that the states prefer to provoke conflict instead of protecting the freedom of the hostages.

Acting in the position of Ambassador Linda-Thomas-Greenfield, she said that the group’s demand for “an unconditional ceasefire with Hamas means that this council accepts that Hamas retains power in Gaza. The United States will never accept this.” He called the decision a way to “strengthen Hamas.”

The emotional frustration of the American ambassador was expressed repeatedly, saying that the United States “worked for weeks to avoid this outcome” and “could not support it. [an] an unconditional ceasefire that failed to free the hostages.”

According to a resolution chaired by Algeria, the move called for an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire with Israel. The decision did not guarantee the release of the hostages.

“This decision would have sent a dangerous message to Hamas. There is no need to go back to the negotiating table. Hamas would have seen it as confirmation of a disloyal strategy,” Wood noted.

He stressed that Hamas wants the world to forget about hostages from more than 20 member countries who have been held for 410 days. Wood cited Hamas’ strategy of negotiating in bad faith.

“Hamas has rejected agreement after agreement. Some members of this council, in their public statements, ignore Hamas’ disobedience and really fail to criticize Hamas,” he said.

The proposed resolution was not criticized by the terrorist organization Hamas, which killed nearly 1,200 people on Oct. 7, 2023. Hamas killed more than 40 Americans that day.

Wood noted that some members don’t want to face the fact that “It’s not Israel that’s standing in the way of a ceasefire. It’s Hamas.” He added that some members of the council will not recognize that Hamas is the one who instigated the war against Israel.

After Wood’s speech, French Ambassador Nicolas de Rivière thanked the sponsors of the draft and noted that France “deeply regrets that it was not accepted today.”

He warned that “The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is catastrophic, and it continues to worsen every day. International humanitarian law is being trampled on. Against this backdrop, the only response would have been, and remains, an immediate and permanent end. – fire.”

On Monday, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, warned that “This resolution is one of many attacks Israel is planning on the United Nations, aimed at permanently undermining the Trump administration and the Republican Congress.”

Cruz told Fox News Digital that “I will work with my Republican colleagues and President Trump to take whatever steps are necessary to reverse these measures, including re-examining our relationship with the UN and the Palestinians, cutting off broad aid, and imposing sanctions on certain officials responsible for those measures, as well as fighting the government and and private organizations that push or use them.”
