Apple Store workers in Oklahoma City ratify their first union contract

Workers at an Apple store in Oklahoma City’s Penn Square Mall voted to accept their first collective bargaining agreement. Workers at the store are part of the Communication Workers of America, which operates as the Apple Retail Union-CWA Local 6016. The workers’ three-year agreement with Apple includes the following, according to a press release from the CWA:

  • “Wages have been increased up to 11.5% over the next three years.”

  • “Employee involvement in organizing and guaranteed paid leave to vote.”

  • “A safe and democratic workplace with a grievance and arbitration process and the establishment of joint Safety and Health and Labor Relations committees.”

  • “Protecting the job in the event of a store closing or relocation and being paid at work.”

  • “Guaranteed paid time off, health and other benefits.”

Today’s news caps years of consolidation and securing a contract for the Penn Square Mall Apple Store, which began planning in early 2022. The sides came to a head in early September after a unanimous strike authorization vote in August and a shoplifting.

The Oklahoma City workers are the second group of Apple store workers to reach a contract with their union. An Apple store in Maryland became the first of the tech company’s stores to unionize, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers in June 2022.
