A video that has gone viral shows the pilots descending into the violent storm

It was dark and stormy at night when a video recorded from the cockpit surfaced on social media, showing the conditions faced by pilots when they disembark in heavy rain.

“This was the day I learned that planes have wiper blades,” said TikToker @damailufta, who sat in the front seat behind the pilots in the cockpit as their wipers worked hard to clear the vision of landing at Sola Airport in Stavanger, Norway. .

Mina Farden Bertheussen, 30, who said she is a Norwegian Airlines flight attendant based in Oslo, was not working the night she recorded the video; He was a passenger on his airline visiting his family and requested a seat in the waiting area for part of the flight.

“It was a short flight of 40 minutes, but it was raining a lot,” Bertheussen told Fox News Digital. “It wasn’t really a difficult flight. But I found it very interesting and I wanted to photograph it because you couldn’t see anything.”

The unusual footage of what happened inside the crew’s cabin during the bad weather baffled viewers, and the video has garnered more than 3.5 million views.

“These guys are magicians,” commented another.

“Talk about trusting your bells,” said one viewer.

As the plane approached to land, the pilots could be heard counting the number of meters the plane had taken off the ground, which Bertheussen said should dispel the idea that planes land by themselves.

“You can actually hear it during the video,” she said. “At about 300 to 400 meters, you can hear a loud alarm. That’s why they turn off the autopilot. So from there, they fly the plane themselves. Autopilot is only used in certain situations.”

Many TikTok viewers seemed surprised by the average-looking wipers and how well they held up under adverse conditions.

“Those windshield wipers were fighting for their lives,” commented another.

“These wiper blades gave me a lot of anxiety,” wrote another.

Bertheussen said his cockpit view confirms what he already knows about pilot training and operations.

“You can see that they don’t rely only on their eyes,” he said. “They also rely on them [instruments] in the world. Pilots are really in control. They know exactly what they are doing.”

Flying in turbulent weather can be scary for passengers, but Bertheussen said, in his experience, there’s no reason to worry.

“The video looks amazing, but they are in full control,” he said. “It was nothing extraordinary. It’s normal for pilots, and they have a lot of training. It’s the same for us as aircrews. If it’s intense or chaotic, we don’t fear because we train. , and we know what’s safe.”
