A man was stabbed to death in Beverly Hills following an altercation

Beverly Hills police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a man following an altercation with another person in the city on Saturday afternoon.

Police received a call around 2:50 p.m. reporting an “unknown disturbance” in the 100 block of Spalding Drive, the department said in a statement. When the police arrived at the scene, they found a man with a stab wound and rushed him to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing but initial findings indicate that there was a conflict between two men; the other man involved is cooperating with the investigation. There is no threat to public safety at this time, police said.

A witness at the scene told NBC4 News that the man who was stabbed tried to hit another man who was holding a child in his arms. The witness was in his car and stopped it to mediate. The attacker “wasn’t there, he was having a mental break, so it was scary,” according to the witness, who asked not to be named.

He said the man – who had a deep cut on his face – then turned his attention to the witness’s car and tried to pull his dog from the back seat.

The same witness told ABC7 that the assailant then ran onto a nearby building and began smashing the windows. Police arrived and used a taser before taking him away, he said.
