A fire destroyed a Hollywood auto parts store and two nearby restaurants on Saturday.
A massive fire tore through an auto parts store on Hollywood Boulevard Saturday afternoon, destroying the business and damaging two nearby restaurants.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said the Autozone in the 1300 block of Highland Avenue at the intersection of Fountain Avenue was swept away when firefighters arrived after a 911 call at 4:21 p.m.
The fire was extinguished around 18:30 in the afternoon, said Brian Humphrey, spokesperson for the Fire Department. No injuries were reported.
Humphrey said the auto shop was “destroyed.” He said the fire destroyed the restaurant Fat Sal and Sushi Ajito, which are adjacent to the auto parts store in the mall.
Fire officials have yet to determine the cause, Humphrey said. A 911 caller reported an “explosion” related to a battery problem, he said.
“It’s unclear what type of battery it was or if it was part of the inventory,” Humphrey said.
Firefighters were working with environmental officials to “contain as much water as possible,” Humphrey said, citing “chemical, motor oil and cleaning” products at the auto parts store.
Officials said the fire was contained to the shopping center and did not damage nearby businesses or residences. They said the area near Highland and Fountain avenues will be closed at least this morning.
