A car crashes into the roof of a Southern California home

A car crashed into the roof of a Rancho Palos Verdes home Sunday evening, sending one person to a nearby hospital.

The incident happened around 5:50 p.m. at 28036 Santona Drive, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“It sounded like the whole house exploded,” homeowner Joann Killeen told KTLA.

The driver was an elderly person who lost control of his car on the edge of the road and suffered minor injuries, said the watch manager, Lt. Rony Del Pinto of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

A photo from NBC Los Angeles shows a car mounted on a roof. Photos shared by Killeen and KTLA showed the interior of the room was trashed, and a gaping hole was left in the roof.

Del Pinto said no one else in the house was injured and no one was arrested, calling it a “total accident.”
