A California man tortured a girlfriend, painted ‘shameful words’ on her before killing her

A California man has been convicted of murder for killing his girlfriend on Christmas Eve, who was found tortured and scrawled with what authorities described as “shameful words.”
Alisen Takacs-Escobar was found dead on Dec. 24, 2021, in the apartment she shared with 24-year-old Saul C. Nava, according to a statement from the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
Nava was convicted on Tuesday of 9 counts, including murder, torture, kidnapping, aggravated assault, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of child pornography and injury to a current or former roommate.
Authorities say deputies responded to the couple’s apartment in Thousand Oaks, California, a northwest city near Los Angeles, after Nava called 911 seeking medical help.

When they arrived at the home, first responders found Takacs-Escobar dead from injuries “all over her body.”
“He had multiple bruises, a large gash on his head, and the words were recently written on the center of his chest,” the district attorney’s office said.
Nava was arrested in this house, said the police.

Police also found baseball bats, a hammer and a screwdriver. The district attorney’s office said Nava used the tools to beat and torture her for “days.”
Police said videos on Nava’s phone, taken hours before Takacs-Escobar’s death, show the 24-year-old boyfriend “taunting her and showing no concern for her deteriorating condition.”
Authorities say subsequent investigations revealed that Nava had abused former girlfriends.
Another ex-girlfriend said he “locked her in a closet” and beat her repeatedly.
“He tried to run away, Nava found him and threatened him with a knife until he got into his car,” said the district attorney’s office.

In another incident, Nava’s ex-girlfriend became pregnant at the age of 17, and it is alleged that he persuaded her to have an abortion.
“He was punched in the face, choked and secretly filmed having sex with Nava,” the district attorney’s office said. “The abuse finally ended when Nava began dating Ms. Takacs-Escobar in the summer of 2021”

“Although this result cannot erase the immeasurable pain the defendant has caused the victims and their families, we hope this brings some measure of closure so we can hold him accountable for his horrific crimes,” said Deputy District Attorney David Russell.
