Gov. JB Pritzker vows Illinois to advance sex reform after Trump’s landslide victory

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker promised Saturday that he would keep his state open to the administration of the opposite sex after the issue, especially concerning children, became a bone of contention during the presidential election.

The billionaire ruler, whose family is heavily involved in the transgender movement, posted a tweet to mark Transgender Awareness Week.

“This Transgender Awareness week, I want you to know that I see you and have your back as governor,” Pritzker wrote. “Illinois has put in place gender-affirming care protections to meet this time — and because of that, you’ll always have a home here.”

Her state is one of several, including Minnesota and California, that critics say fosters a climate that encourages some children to seek so-called “gender-affirming care.”

Pritzker’s cousin, Jennifer, was born male but now identifies as female and is an outspoken supporter of transgender therapy. Jennifer (née James) Pritzker was a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army National Guard and a father of three.

Jennifer Pritzker also heads the Chicago-based Tawani Foundation, which awards grants to organizations that support “human sexuality and sexuality,” according to its website. The Pritzker family’s fortune was made in Hyatt Hotels.

“Continuing my family’s tradition of putting personal service to work for the benefit of society, the Tawani Foundation strives to make grants that empower the organizations we support to achieve and build on their mission,” Jennifer wrote on the foundation’s website.

Illinois is one of the most progressive states in the nation when it comes to transgender children.

Gov. Pritzker issued a directive to the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHR) in December 2021 regarding nondiscrimination protections for “transgender, non-binary and gender nonconforming students” under the Illinois Civil Rights Act of 1979.

“Ensuring that every Illinois student has a safe, affirming learning environment where they can be their true selves is a top priority for my administration,” Pritzker said in a statement. “This guidance from the Illinois Department of Human Rights will provide students, guardians, and teachers another tool to ensure that classrooms are welcoming, affirming, and inclusive for all students.”

In Illinois, naturalized males can compete against females under Pritzker’s guidance in school or club sports.

Additionally, “the use of restrooms, locker rooms, and locker rooms may not be restricted based on a student’s body composition or chromosomal sex. A student must be allowed access to restrooms or bathrooms, locker rooms, and locker rooms consistent with his or her gender identity. And without providing documentation or other evidence of gender,” according to the IDHR.

Pritzker’s policy specifies that “discomfort or privacy concerns of other students, teachers, or parents” are “not reasonable grounds to deny or restrict full and equal use of facilities based on a student’s gender identity.”

The GOP’s 2024 national presidential election mandate gives Democrats who publicly support “gender-affirmation” policies to freeze children.

In a February 2023 video, President-elect Trump said, “I will ask Congress to permanently stop federal taxpayer dollars from being used to promote or pay for these practices and pass legislation banning child sexual mutilation in all 50 states.”

In Illinois, Medicaid can cover sex-reassignment surgery and drugs for those 21 or older under Gov. Pritzker.
