Explosion outside Brazil’s Supreme Court leads to evacuation, one dead: police – National

Brazilian police said there was an explosion on Wednesday outside the country’s Supreme Court in the capital of Brasilia. Photos from local media showed the body on the ground.

A police statement said an artifact exploded outside the courthouse without giving further details.

Jorge Macedo, who works at Brazil’s highest court, told The Associated Press that he heard two explosions that caused the building to be evacuated. He said the person lying on the ground outside the courtroom looked dead.

After that, the fire department confirmed that one person died but did not identify him.

José Chrispiniano, spokesman for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, said the 79-year-old leader was not in the neighboring presidential palace at the time of the explosion.
