Trump nominates former ICE Director Tom Homan as next ‘border governor’: ‘no one is better at securing our borders’

President-elect Donald Trump announced Sunday that he plans to nominate Thomas Homan as the next “border boss.”

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social.

“I have known Tom for a long time, and there is no one better at policing and controlling our borders. Similarly, Tom Homan will handle all Deportations of Illegal Aliens back to their country of origin. Congratulations Tom. I have no doubt that he will do a great job, and it is long overdue. “

Trump added that the position of “border chief” is not only to guard the southern border with the US and Mexico, but also “Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security. I have known Tom for a long time, and no one else. better in policing and controlling our Border.”

This comes less than a week after Trump won his second presidential term, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris, who was called the “border king” in the Biden administration.

Border security was a strong point of Trump’s first presidency, and it became a strong point during both his 2020 and 2024 campaigns.

Illegal border crossings have declined under the Biden administration, to nearly 3 million by fiscal year 2024, according to the Homeland Security website. There were more than 10.8 million illegal encounters as of FY 2021.

Trump vowed during his campaign that he would also take a tougher approach to border security.

“It’s going to be a well-directed, organized operation run by the men of ICE. The men and women of ICE do this every day. They do a great job,” Homan said during the meeting. Fox News interview on Sunday, adding that the expulsion would be a “humane act.”

During his campaign, Trump referred to illegal immigrants as people fleeing countries that do not want them. He often said in his rallies that illegal immigrants flooded America with drugs and gangs, and became a hub for human trafficking and smuggling, saying they were “poisoning the blood of our country.”

“They are violent people, in many cases from jails, prisons, mental institutions, insane asylums,” Trump said. “You know, silly shelters, that ‘Silence of the Lambs’.”

This is just the beginning of thousands of positions that need to be closed by the president. Trump has already announced that Susie Wiles, his fellow campaign manager, will be his White House chief of staff.
