Create and decorate a giant snowman. Students cut and use the circles to create a snowman and add accessories as they see fit. If they want, students can build themselves as a snowman. Then, send snowmen around the classroom or in the hallway.
Go outside and collect items that you can use to decorate the snowman. Acorns, leaves, and sticks can become buttons, hats, and arms. Students cut out a giant snowman and decorate it with their findings.
How to build a snowman: Use a large printable snowman to write a page on how to build a snowman. First, write the steps to build a big sticky note snowman using transition words (first, next, then, last). Then, use the snowman printable to add a picture that goes with each sentence.
Snowman biography: Students research a famous person and create a snowman for that person. They can use accessories or make their own.

Choose a winter writing prompt and have students copy the final draft onto the snow printable. Then they can decorate the background. Some winter writing prompts:

What is your favorite winter activity?
Is winter the best season? Why or why not?
If you could live anywhere in the world in the winter, where would you live?
If tomorrow was a snow day, what would you do?

Medium Snowmen Statues

A giant Snowman statue — We are teachers

Imagine a snowman having a snow day! Students plan how the snowman can spend his snow day. Would the snowman want to go out and play in the snow? Or could their snowman be inside the igloo trying to relax? Once they have their ideas, students write a story about what the snowman did on his snow day and decorate the middle snowman to illustrate their story.
A snowman of substance: What can you cover snowmen with? Cotton? Salt? Create snowmen with different designs and send them to the corner to create a sensory wall.
Snowman forecast: Create a snowman forecast and tell them to tell the weather. You can research the weather in your area and have a snowman report on the actual weather (How would a snowman feel with five days of sun in a row?). Or make a prediction that the snowman doesn’t like. Record student predictions and share them with parents.

My snowman learned to … Students create a snow character and think what a snowman can learn to do. Maybe they learn to ski or sled. Or maybe they find a way to bake brownies or plant flowers without melting! Students use small snowmen to decorate the story they are writing.
Snowman poems: Students decorate a snowman based on a poem about winter. Then they show everyone their snowman and read a poem. Start with these Sweet Winter Poems.
Snow facts: Research snow facts, then create a bulletin board using snowmen as snow experts. Each snowman can “speak” a snow truth.
Create a snowman matching game: Print and cut out the snowmen. Then make matching pairs by writing matching information about the pairs of snowmobilers. You can do memory games with upper and lower case letters, numbers and values, math facts and answers, and more. Students can play Memory with the snowmen, and if you snow them, they can stay until the next snow.

Small Snow Sculptures

The life cycle of a snowman: How do snowflakes form, from a small snowflake to a large snowball? Students cut out little snowmen and use them to illustrate the life cycle of a snowman.
Fun quotes: Students choose and translate a snowy quote. They cut a little snow, decorate it, and cut the card into a speech bubble. Then they write their interpretation of the quote or what the saying means to them, and put it on a snowman. Use snowmen and speech bubbles to create a snow-inspired bulletin board.

Snowball Printables

Build-a-name-a-snowman: Students cut out a circle of all the letters in their name, write one letter in each circle, and put the letters on the snowman. Be sure to cut out and decorate the head circle!
Snowball math: Cut a bunch of snowballs and have students do math problems with them. Create a snowman with 3 + 4 snowballs, for example.

Your Snowman Printable Activity

For this creative craft, kids cut out circles and glue them to a sheet of construction paper to build their snowman. Then they color and cut out accessories and winter scenery to create their own unique snowman.
