RPF seizes gold, silver, currency worth Rs 4.01 crores in major operation at New Delhi Railway Station

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted a major operation at the New Delhi railway station on September 5, 2024, which led to the seizure of gold, silver, and cash worth Rs 4.01 crores. Acting on a tip-off, RPF officials searched several incoming trains and found 24 suspicious packages hidden between four different coaches. What started as a routine check revealed a huge cache: 498 grams of gold bars, 365 kilograms of silver, and Rs 85.72 lakhs in undisclosed currency, an official release said.
In collaboration with the Income Tax Department, the RPF team carefully documented and verified these items for further investigation, marking the operation as a major success in curbing illegal activities on the railways during the Assembly Elections in Haryana. The operation was one of the RPF’s wider efforts to secure the Assembly Elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, which took place between August 16 and October 5.
With 60 companies deployed across these states, the RPF played a vital role in ensuring a peaceful election environment. Their vigil led to the seizure of illegal goods worth Rs 12.86 crores, including drugs, adulterated liquor, and other items that could influence voters. Such efforts played a major role in supporting the Model of Conduct during the elections.
The Director General of Railway Protection Force, Shri Manoj Yadava, commended his team for their dedication, saying, “Every election is an important moment for our democracy. With the seizure of illegal goods targeted and careful monitoring, we are here to protect that time. I commend the RPF Team for their unwavering commitment and hard work, ensuring the safety of our railways and empowering all citizens to participate in the democratic process with confidence.”
By protecting railways and interdicting illegal goods, the RPF not only protected the transport network but also contributed to the broader effort to ensure free and fair elections, allowing citizens to vote with confidence.
