BingoPlus Foundation, DigiPlus brings clean water to 15,000 residents in Dumanjug, Cebu

DigiPlus Interactive, through its community development arm, BingoPlus Foundation, recently launched Project Clean, an initiative aimed at improving water safety for 15,000 residents in Dumanjug, Cebu. This important project addresses the serious public health challenges caused by insufficient access to clean water, providing vital support to the local community.

Diarrhea is still the third leading cause of death among children in the Philippines, mostly due to contaminated water. In response, the BingoPlus Foundation donated 138 upgraded water filters, 11 rainwater collection tanks, and provided extensive sanitation training through its ongoing partnership with Waves4Water. These efforts will directly benefit residents in all 11 areas, ensuring access to clean, safe water and greatly reducing the risk of waterborne diseases.

As part of its KalusuganPLUS Program, under the pillar of advocacy for Accessible Healthcare, Project Clean tackles the pressing issue of sustainable access to clean water in Cebu. Since the National Water Resources Board cites Cebu as one of the most water-stressed areas, the provision of MVP filters—capable of purifying up to 3 million liters of water without electricity and designed for long-term use—represents an important step toward a resilient state. water solutions.

Angela Camins-Wieneke, Executive Director of the BingoPlus Foundation, emphasized, “Project Clean is an example of our commitment to changing lives through sustainable and impactful health solutions. By equipping communities with the tools and knowledge they need, we aim to protect their health and improve their quality of life.”

Pilar Fernandez, Nurse and Sanitation Inspector at Dumanjug Rural Health Unit, highlighted the local impact: “We often see cases of children suffering from diarrhea and amoebiasis due to unsafe water. The water in our rivers may look clear but it is often dirty. Project Clean will greatly improve the safety of our water sources, protecting the health of our community.”

Project Clean is part of a P15 million donation from BingoPlus during the Cebu Carnival, which also includes a major relief effort after Typhoon Carina, apart from various projects dedicated to Cebu.
