ESPN analyst wants anonymous voter who chose Angel Reese for Rookie of the Year to come clean: ‘Hold on to it’

Caitlin Clark was named the WNBA Rookie of the Year earlier this week, to no one’s surprise. Well, except for one person.

Despite an epic season in which he broke multiple league records, Clark was not the unanimous choice for the award.

Sixty-seven votes were cast, and 66 went to Clark. Another one? Angel Reese.

“WNBA Countdown” panelists on ESPN were surprised Clark’s selection wasn’t unanimous.

“Shut up Caitlin. I should have agreed, but I’ll stop there,” Andraya Carter said.

He didn’t stop there. Instead, Carter criticized the voter who checked Reese’s name and said the voter should be revealed. WNBA voters are unknown.

“And that’s why we would like the WNBA to make voting anonymous,” Carter said. “Because if you were the person who got that one vote, you should have been able to stand on it. And we should know who you are.

“In the NBA, the voting is still unknown. So, I would like the WNBA to do the voting so we can see who is placing the votes where.”

There was certainly some controversy early in the season after Reese broke her own WNBA record with 15 consecutive double-doubles.

However, Clark retired after the Olympic break, and Reese’s season ended early due to injury.

Clark extended his lead in nearly every statistical category in the weeks before and after Reese’s season ended. In addition, he led the Fever to the playoffs for the first time in eight years as the team’s leading scorer.

Reese, despite setting the WNBA record for most rebounds in a season (her record was later broken by MVP A’ja Wilson due to Reese’s injury), was the third leading scorer on a Chicago team that finished the season 13–27. record, third worst in the league, and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

Reese and Clark’s reputations, fan bases and long-standing rivalry have been tied to their respective races since their 2023 NCAA national championship meeting. Reese and LSU beat Clark and Iowa, and Reese pointed his finger to brag about the viral moment that drew so much backlash and support.

Clark’s Fever went 3-1 against Reese and the Sky this season. Both are the only players named as All-Stars this year.
