Mets play announcer’s viral call where he runs Pete Alonso on a plane, cheering him on

The New York Mets are widely considered the best broadcasters in sports, and Thursday night provided an example of why.

Howie Rose, who has been calling Mets games since 1995 and grew up a fan of the team, was on the call at 880 AM in New York, and both Rose and Pete Alonso delivered big time.

Trailing 2-0 and with two outs to go, Alonso hit a three-run home run to give New York a 3-2 lead. They eventually won, 4-2, to advance to the Milwaukee Brewers in the divisional round.

If the Mets end up winning it all, Rose’s call will be in the highlight video.

“It’s gone! You’ve done it! You’ve done it! Pete Alonso with the most memorable home run of his career!” Rose exclaimed as the ball went over the fence. “Pete Alonso keeps this legendary season going with the legendary swing of his career! 3-2 New York!”

Rose and the Mets headed to Philadelphia for the NLDS against the Phillies after champagne showers.

However, on the plane, with Rose sitting in the front and the rest of the group several rows behind, someone called over the plane’s speakers.

Rose was shy at first, covering his ears, but the Mets players lifted him up.

The announcer turned and pointed to Alonso and greeted them, the two hugged each other deeply.

PETE ALONSO SENDS NEW YORK METS TO NLDS WITH DRAMATIC NINTH-INNING HOMER

Rose was inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame along with TV host Gary Cohen last year. Thursday night’s run call automatically enters Rose’s Mt. Rushmore of phones. Rose was also behind the mic for Mike Piazza’s home run in the Mets’ first home game after 9/11 and Stéphane Matteau’s 1994 home run to send the New York Rangers to the Stanley Cup Finals.

The surprise win is déjà vu for the Mets. It came just three days after the Mets battled back from 3-0 in the eighth and 7-6 in the ninth against the Atlanta Braves to clinch a postseason berth in the first game of a doubleheader.

It all looked like it was over for the Mets, who, after pulling Jose Quintana following six scoreless innings, allowed the relievers to start the seventh inning. Alonso’s blast was the first time a Met has trailed in the 9th inning or later in a game-winning streak all postseason, according to OPTA Stats.
