As extreme weather events become more frequent, climate risks play a role in many people’s long-term decision-making. And few things last longer than buying real estate. In response, Zillow has a new partnership to bring weather risk information to its real estate listings.
Property listing pages in the US will include data about flood, wildfire, wind, heat and air quality hazards in that area. This section will also list any weather-related insurance requirements for that location. Information provided by , an expert on financial modeling of climate risk. Weather data is rolling out this year to Zillow’s website and iOS app, while Android is expected to get an update early next year. Some sites have been updated to display weather data on the web.
Those five risk categories are also used in Zillow’s interactive map view. Each different climate concern has a color-coded icon that shows risk levels across the country or in a small area. It’s essential information for anyone in a position to make that big leap into buying a home. For everyone else, it might just add a touch of grim reality to the fun experience of scrolling through ridiculous and/or overpriced homes.
