Michael Keaton and Mila Kunis Are a Broken Family in Goodrich’s View

Hallie Meyers-Shyer it was necessary Michael Keaton in mind while writing his upcoming film Goodrich – so he was very happy when he agreed to sign on as the main character of the film.

While talking to UsMeyers-Shyer said she “hadn’t seen” Keaton in a heartfelt comedy in “a really long time,” and knew audiences would want to see him “vulnerable” on screen. “I was happy to check that out,” he said.
Keaton’s performance was elevated only by the presence of Kunis, Meyers-Shyer, who previously directed in 2017. Home Againit is said that it was the best decision of Grace because “men and women” are “loved” all over the world.
“We grew up with him in a certain way,” he explained. “And I thought it would be really fun to see her in this role as a daughter and a new mother. Again [like Michael]he is someone I have seen many times, but I had never seen this side of him, so I was happy that he came on board with us.”
Grace is Andy’s daughter from his marriage to his first wife (Andie McDowell) and the pair have a simple yet fractured connection, navigating the ebbs and flows of their relationship as the film progresses. With a special look shared with him Us (which you can watch above), the duo struggle to get on the same page as Andy accidentally reveals all of his problems to his pregnant daughter.
“I’m so sorry, I shouldn’t have put all of this on, I’m sorry,” Andy said to Grace crying as they sat on a bench on the mountain. “Okay, to be honest, this happens all the time and I can’t control it,” he replied. “I just know how important your job is to you, I don’t even know what to say, I hate to see you like this.”
“I hate being like this,” he admitted as he begged her not to cry. “I saw you cry once, I hated it. Don’t do it.”
“Maybe I should cry. If there was ever a time to cry this would be a good time. But I won’t,” he jokes and they both start laughing. “I’ll be fine,” he finally adds. “Let’s go up a mountain or something.”
Meyers-Shyer said that while she was looking for “the right person” to play Grace, it was important that she cast someone with “screen presence and confidence” who could go “toe to toe” with a legendary actor like Keaton – and Kunis fits the bill.
“A lot of their relationship is a boxing match between the two of them,” he explained. “And it was really important. So when he entered, he felt very complete. They’re both also very funny, so they’re able to go in and out of that, ‘I love you, I hate you.’ I love you. I really hate your thing.”
He added, “It’s really good when two actors go together like that – because you just watch the magic happen when they do this dance. And I think the three of us really agreed on wanting to emulate that parent-child relationship where you might be arguing and then one second later you’re like, ‘Okay, I love you. Bye Bye.'”
Hallie, who is the daughter of respected directors Nancy Meyers again Charles Shyer – think The Parent Trap, A holiday again Father of the Bride, to name a few – often draws from his “real life” when he writes, too Goodrich it was so. “There were a lot of themes that I connected to personally, and I think that when you connect to something personally, other people do, because a lot of things that we feel like a lot of people go through,” he explained, noting that he does that. what’s special about him is usually his “way” of directing actors. “With something like this, it’s personal, I can share things and it creates a relationship with you and the actors, and they share. That’s the great thing about making films that aren’t superhero movies and are personal stories about fathers and daughters; you can bind all these things.”
