Tesla has officially launched the redesigned Model Y in North America and Europe, just weeks after the car was announced in the Asia Pacific region. The new version doesn’t replace the original Model Y, either – at least not yet – and Tesla sells both on its website. Currently, you can only find the long-running all-wheel drive variant of the new Model Y in the US with prices starting at $46,490. The launch series is a limited edition with special badges on the rear liftgate, puddle light, doorsill plate and other parts of the car.
Although the new Model Y retains the fit of the old version, it has rounded edges, and its narrow headlights and taillights bookend a redesigned light bar. Inside, it has ambient lights that cover most of the car, ventilated seats and a 15.4-inch touchscreen in the front. The second row seats are power reclining and can be folded. Rear-seat passengers will also have access to an 8-inch Bluetooth-enabled rear screen display with a touch panel.
The new long-wheelbase Model Y has a range of 325 miles, a top speed of 125 mph and can go from zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. For comparison, the old AWD long-range Model Y can reach 311 miles on a single charge, has a top speed of 135 mph and can go from zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. Deliveries of the new Model Y begin in March. If you still want to get the classic version, its prices start at $31,490, although note that it gets a price increase of $4,000 in Canada.
