She left her puppy with a lodger while she went on vacation. His dog has been missing for 2 weeks
A woman who left her puppy in the care of a trusted pet sitter on the popular app Rover.com is devastated after the dog went missing.
Jennifer Gallegos’ four-month-old poodle-bichon mix, named Phoebe, reportedly went missing while living with a celebrity on the show.
Gallegos, from Queens, New York, dropped Phoebe off at the sitter’s home on December 27 before going to Colombia to join her family on vacation.
But on January 2, he received a message from the occupant that there was an emergency.
“He told me, ‘I lost him.’ I started crying. I said, ‘no, no, no… there’s no way, like, there’s no way you did it, what do you mean? Have you lost him?’” Gallegos told ABC News.
Gallegos told the media that the man said Phoebe disappeared from the petstroller while they were in Kissena Park in Queens.
The man had been playing with his dog while Phoebe was in the stroller, according to Gallegos, and when he turned around, the puppy was gone.
Gallegos contacted Rover immediately and reported that his dog was missing and now says the man has stopped responding to messages.
Writing on Facebook on January 11, Gallegos said: “I texted this guy asking him to at least return Phoebe’s stuff and I’m ignoring him. We are very traumatized by everything that has been happening. It all sounds like a nightmare.”
Rover told ABC that the player’s profile had been removed and they had reinstated Gallegos. The company said it was “a very unusual incident in our area.”
On its website, Rover says everyone who works at the facility undergoes a third-party criminal background check.
The Independent contacted Rover and Gallegos for more information.
Gallegos said the broadcaster, whose name has not been released, has had positive reviews on the app. “You have about 28 different reviews from family that say you’re a great pet sitter,” Gallegos said.
“I was just crying, I’ve been crying, I’m worried, I’m just thinking, ‘Where is he? Are you ready? Where is he?’” Gallegos said The Gothamist.
He has spoken with a private investigator and an attorney, according to the report.
