InkPoster uses e-paper display to bring art into your home

I’m not a fan of those TVs sold in picture frames surrounded by companies that tell you they’re perfect for displaying art in your homes. There’s something unsatisfying about using a powerful, backlit screen for things you have to look at for long periods of time. You can really appreciate the Turner’s Norham Castle Sunrise if you have problems with eyestrain after five minutes or so? Perhaps the cure for my dourness is found in PocketBook’s new device, the InkPoster. It uses a large, colored e-paper display to do the same job, giving your eyes a better chance to see the brush strokes up close and personal.

InkPoster is a series of colored e-paper displays equipped with battery packs that can be hung in your home for up to a year on a single charge. There is no power cable, and it can be installed horizontally or vertically, depending on your preference. You’ll be able to access a curated art library, curated by a team of “professional art advisors” and choose what you want to see within the InkPoster compatible app. You’ll also be able to use it as an old fashioned photo frame, which is great if you want to pull artwork from the internet and display that instead.

There are three display sizes based on two different technologies, Spectra 6 and Sharp’s IGZO. The former is available in a 13.3-inch model with a resolution of 1,200 x 1,600, packing a 14,000mAh battery. There is a 28.5-inch version with a 2,160 x 3,060 display that uses a hybrid of both display technologies. Finally, there is a 31.5-inch model with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 that uses Spectra 6 and is designed to be a real focal point in your home. The two larger models both pack a 20,000mAh battery, with the same promise of a year or more of performance.

PocketBook hasn’t said pricing for the hardware or how much it will cost to access its catalog of artwork, let alone any kind of timeline for when you’ll be able to hang this on your wall.
