CES 2025 Revealed: OpenDroids’ R2D3 home robot is ‘Roomba on crack’
CES 2025 is already in full swing, and one of the highlights of this year’s Reveal event is OpenDroids’ R2D3 – a multitasking home robot that promises to revolutionize the way we do household chores.

OpenDroids, a San Francisco-based robotics startup founded last year, is entering the virtual space with its second-generation home assistant. Co-founder Jack Jay described the R2D3 to an eager crowd as “a Roomba on crack,” emphasizing its improved capabilities over the company’s first model, the R1D1. R2D3 is equipped to handle everything from laundry to washing dishes, setting the stage for a future where cleaning your home feels like a thing of the past.
Both R2D3 and its predecessor were built on the idea of simplifying everyday life, self-charging capabilities, real-time depth perception, and surprisingly chaotic movements for a heavy bot. Currently, R2D3 is being tested in rescue facilities, helping workers with repetitive tasks. OpenDroids is also looking at restaurant kitchens as a potential market, where a bot can perform labor-intensive household tasks.
Mashable Light Speed
However bringing one will come at a price. OpenDroids estimates that R2D3 will retail for around $60,000. If that’s too steep, the previous R1D1 model comes in at a (relatively) affordable $18,500.
No bot is currently available for purchase, but interested buyers can join a waiting list on the company’s website.
